I had this complete and therefore valuable volume from 1865 bound for better preservation because it contains, among other things, the extensive "List of Reptiles, on a Journey in Northern America" by Maximilian Prince of Wied-Neuwied (1782-1867). Following the example of Alexander von Humboldt, he undertook two expeditions to North and South America lasting several years. He was an officer, explorer, ethnologist and zoologist. In North America (1832-1834) he was accompanied by the Swiss painter Karl Bodmer, who painted the 5 wonderful turtle panels (see illustrations in the graphic, Bodmer). Because of this extraordinary work, I visited Andreas Brahm in Frankfurt/Main in 2010.
