Copper engraving, around 1590 and thus the oldest original graphic in the collection, format with frame 31.5 x 23 cm. The work of the Dutch painter and Kopferstechers (from Haarlem) can be assigned to mannerism. The master's works were also export articles and can be found in many museums today. The sheet probably comes from the episode "The Five Senses" and surprises with the Latin Inscription, translated accordingly: "What harms as a sight does not touch your hands so that you will not soon be torn away by a worse evil." But it is also referred to with "marriage happiness" (the turtle stands for fertility). Goltzius was not only a brilliant designer and engraver, but also a successful entrepreneur (see Albrecht Dürer). His copper engravings inspire because of the technical perfection and unconventional image inventions.
