This old bier (detail) is known as a kafudal bed (also ceremonial bed or funeral bed) and is carved from a piece of the trunk of a tropical tree, including the four legs. In the Senufo ethnic group, these stretchers are used by the entire village community to carry the dead (wrapped in cloth) in a kind of procession to the burial ground, height 170 cm.
