This old bier (detail) is known as a kafudal bed (also ceremonial bed or funeral bed) and is carved from a piece of the trunk of a tropical tree, including the four legs. In the Senufo ethnic group, these stretchers are used by the entire village community to carry the dead (wrapped in cloth) in a kind of procession to the burial ground, height 170 cm. The neckline was chosen to show off the iconic turtle more clearly. Similar objects are also found in neighboring ethnic groups, however, the design of the headrest is different
exceptionally. In the western world, unfortunately, comparable objects sometimes serve as designer loungers.
