Detail view artifact.

The photo of the magnificent Renaissance painting by Giorgio Vasari only shows a section (a large tortoise in the right arm). But it served as a template for the commissioned work in fresco technique (search: Oberdörfer & Nitsch). The original adorns an entire wall in the "Hall of the Elements" of the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence). There are also other tortoise motifs in the ceiling paintings and even in the floor. The court painter was also an architect and is considered the "father of art history".
