Commissioned work, ginkgo leaf made of maple wood, format 55 x 42 cm. The artist is one of the best contemporary sculptors in Germany, trained at the school for wood sculptors in Oberammergau, studied at the Munich Art Academy (master student of Prof. Hans Ladner), has scholarships abroad in Paris and Florence, and has been awarded prestigious prizes (including the Water Lily Prize). Among his various teaching assignments, the Sculpture Project in Tanzania (Goethe Institute) is particularly worth mentioning. One example of his sometimes enormous sculptures is the monument to a stalk (title "The Limits to Growth", length 30 meters). If you want to form your own opinion, you can find out more on his website. Then it becomes understandable that a turtle object was not his theme. He could have made it easy for himself, but that in no way met his standards. So nothing happened for a long time. Later, he had pinned several ginkgo leaves I had pressed in his studio (originally as inspiration for a competition in public space), which were already slightly decomposing. From this he developed the idea for this finely crafted work, in which the turtles appear in the form of three small "holes" in the leaf (realized in 1999). I am still impressed by this solution to this day. Regardless of this, we have been friends for a very long time and have experienced various adventures together, including in Bonn and Berlin (joint proposal for the Holocaust Memorial) and in Beijing (in ice and snow on the Great Wall). In addition, as a completely self-taught artist, I took part in several of his workshops at the Neuburg Summer Academy (twice) and in his large studio in Freihalden (also twice) and met many artist friends. I am also happy with his square cross relief (covered in gold leaf, gold stands for the divine in all world religions) and enjoy three small rose petals. There are also several catalogues. An impressive and comprehensive appreciation of his work can be found in the exhibition catalogue (with dedication)
"Kulturort Wintringer Kapelle" by Peter Michael Lupp. I have also been friends with his wife, the artist Barbara Henning, for a very long time (see her work).
