This magnificent presentation cushion (cushion cover), called fukusa, from the Meiji period (1868 - 1912) was used to present a gift. It was returned to the giver. It features an auspicious minogame in raised gold thread/color embroidery on textured silk satin backed with ecru crepe silk. The turtle is holding a flat sake bowl in its mouth, on which the character "Kotobuki" (representing the wish for happiness and long life) is embroidered, size 59 x 55 cm (without tassels).
