Detail view artifact.

Cast brass, patinated, with a sitting snake, a motif that also occurs in other cultures, size approx. 11 cm. The object reminds me of the mythical creature "Black Turtle" (Xuanwu), a combination of turtle and snake, which particularly in ancient China represents the north and winter (Japanese name Genbu). Both animals are also symbols of longevity, which is perhaps why they are now popular in Asia as a piece of jewelry or even as a tattoo. There is no separate object for the mythical creatures mentioned, but there are a number of illustrations.
