Complete shells of two Greek tortoises (Testudo boettgeri), which I received as a gift on the occasion of a house clearance, size 13 and 17 cm. These wild animals are still often kept as pets in Western Europe. I was lucky enough to observe individual animals in the wild in Greece. Several specimens have the pattern of a butterfly on the underside of their shells (see bottom left). Butterflies are considered a symbol of hope, freedom and lightness [hint: this is an automatic translation from German]   |   Category: artefact   |   Material: Schildpatt Präparate   |   Country of origin: Thessaly and Central Greece, Greece | Similar pieces
