Well-preserved Kapala from Nepal, an old, ritual drinking vessel used by Newar temple priests (who practice various tantric cults), based on a turtle shell (see inside), size 14.5 cm. The copper coating is gold bronzed, has a very beautiful patina due to signs of wear and is provided with an all-round inscription (Sanskrit) which, despite some efforts, has not yet been deciphered. The work is also a testament to the artistry of the Kathmandu Valley (an ethnic and cultural melting pot of the country). It is an absolutely museum-worthy object, see also other Kapalas.
