Fossilization from the Oligocene era, approx. 30 million years old, with a rare reddish color, scientific name: Testudo thomsoni,
approx. 13.5 cm tall. The location is the White River Badlands (national park since 1978), South Dakota, from Mr. Prerer's own quarry and laboratory for preparations. He cooperates with museums around the world and maintains a fossil gallery in Bad Homburg. In 2009, the most famous find from the Messel mine, the monkey “Ida” (a fossil of a primate precursor), was sold to the Natural History Museum in Oslo for around €600,000. A fossil from the Messel mine can also be found in my collection (see Messel).
