The voluminous illustrated book bears the title "East Asian Art" on the spine, edited by Gabriele Fahr-Becker, published by h.f.ullmann, 2011 (739 pages) and contains a considerable part of our world cultural heritage. The cover shows a detail of painting on gold leaf, on a large screen with 6 panels, by Ogata Korin (1658 - 1716, Japan). It is a huge undertaking to present art in all its incredible diversity and at the same time in its commonalities. The book also contains some objects from the Museum of Ethnology in Munich (now: Museum Five Continents). The works mentioned below always have a connection to turtles: a valuable picture by Huang Quan (ink and color on silk) from the Palace Museum in Beijing (around 950 AD), an illustrated folding book from Thailand (before 1900), Ikat fabric from the Philippines with reference to the ancestral world, a bronze sake jug (Japan, around 18th - 19th century, an illustration can be found in the "Art" category under "Photos") in the form of the symbolic Minogam, on the end of whose shell seaweed grows, which looks like a veil tail, or a cabinet with inlays made of shark skin and tortoise shell (Korea, 19th century), from the Museum of Lacquer Art in Münster. There is also a separate catalog (207 pages) by Prof. Monika Kopplin, with a focus on East Asian lacquer work (see, among others, my lacquer tray from Japan). Turtles are not only of considerable importance in all Asian cultures, this can also be proven in many ways by the collection (for Asia, see e.g. Minogam or Netsuke).
