This peace parable is one of the most popular children's books by the author and screenwriter Erich Kästner (1899 - 1974). His books were banned and publicly burned in the Third Reich. With his entire work, he is one of the authors of international standing. The congenial illustrator and caricaturist Walter Trier also enjoys international renown (turtles often play a role in his drawings). He illustrated all of Kästner's children's books until his death and together they continue to delight generations of children to this day. Other examples are "Emil and the Detectives" and "The Flying Classroom". Jella Lepmann is the founder of the International Youth Library in Munich (in Blutenburg Castle). This highly respected institution also has the largest collection of original Kästner illustrations. In addition to current exhibitions (such as Walter Trier), there are permanent exhibitions on Michael Ende, James Krüss and Binette Schroeder (see also her poster with a turtle for the opening of the Michael Ende Museum).
