Galapagos giant tortoise (approx. 1.50 m long and weighing 250 kg), photo from the book "Genesis", TaschenVerlag, Cologne (2022, 192 pages, text by Salgado and his wife, in English), taken on the crater rim of the Alcedo volcano, Isabela Island. There I experienced such magnificent specimens myself (there is a DVD specially created with my friend Rudi Arzt, titled "Ecuador - Impressions", my own photos, accompanied by South American music, duration 33 minutes). The Brazilian star photographer, adventurer and environmental activist worked on the “Genesis” project from 2004 to 2013 (“Opus Magnum"). In Wim Wenders' documentary film "The Salt of the Earth" (2014), Salgado says about this photo, among other things: "Maybe Darwin already had this turtle "seen". The recording is also available as a postcard. The magnificent film - almost a monument to Salgado - was shown again on W. Wenders' 80th birthday in 2025 (TV, 3-SAT), the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn also organized a large exhibition on this occasion.
